Selling a boat in Kardhamila
Selling a boat at Kardhamila through us means there is nothing for you to do. We qualify the enquiries, run the viewings and sea trials, organise any inspection the survey calls for, and take care of the contract, the legal side and the transfer of ownership, from first offer to handover.
Every valuation starts with a thorough market study. We have access to data on boats that have actually sold, and for each boat we weigh its age, the prices achieved for comparable boats, its options, its condition, the service history and the area. The valuation is free, so you start from a figure grounded in real sales.
The value of a boat is set by its condition, its model, its age and its equipment, and the area matters as well. Some boats sell better in America than in Greece, and the other way round, and a boat at Kardhamila is judged on that basis, which is why the area is part of every valuation we give.
The market matters too. When the economy is strong, boats sell well, and when credit is easy to find, buyers can pay for them; when it dries up, fewer can. So we combine the valuation with patience and extensive publicity on over 20 international platforms, on social media and on our own website, which draws many buyers. In most cases, that finds the right buyer, and our commission is just 5%.

Finding a serious buyer is the hardest part of selling a boat. Owners who sell privately often meet about 20 time-wasters before they throw in the towel and turn to a broker. It can be an unpleasant business too: like selling a second-hand car, you meet buyers who can be extremely disagreeable.
Then comes the money. With so much scamming around today, you need a representative taking care of the payment, not you alone. The paperwork is complicated too, especially if the boat changes flag or has to be re-registered. Insurance can be a problem, and someone has to check that the boat has no finance outstanding on it.
A broker also gets a better price than you will, and that is his job. For a 5% commission you are very likely ahead anyway, and you do no work. Here at European Yacht Brokers, we speak six languages, list on over 20 international platforms including YachtWorld, and organise the contract, the legal side and the transfer of ownership for owners at Kardhamila.
You give us a mandate to sell your boat. We don’t always ask for exclusivity; we decide case by case. The contract can be terminated at any time.* *If a buyer we introduced during the mandate buys the boat later, we are still entitled to our commission.
A careful photo shoot, with the boat clean, tidy and shot in favourable light, is the first filter a buyer applies. Photos of the exterior, interior, deck, engine room and technical details, supplemented where useful by a short video, present the boat fully and consistently with the asking price, cutting down on pointless viewings.
The specification sheet gathers verified data: builder, model, year, dimensions, engines, equipment and work carried out. On this basis the listing is published on the main boating portals and shared with the broker network and professional contacts, to reach qualified buyers at home and abroad.
Before publication it helps to gather the ownership documents, the registration papers, evidence of VAT status where relevant, engine manuals, maintenance invoices and the inventory of equipment. Well-ordered paperwork speeds up the buyer’s checks and makes the negotiation more solid.
Every enquiry is checked before anyone sets foot on your boat. We establish who the buyer is, whether the buyer is serious and what the buyer wants, so the tyre-kickers never reach your berth at Kardhamila. Because we advertise on over 20 international platforms and answer in six languages, enquiries come from buyers in many countries, and every one of them is qualified the same way.
We arrange the viewings and the sea trial, so you do not need to show anyone round yourself. The sea trial is at the buyer’s expense, with a professional, insured captain, or you can be present yourself. That isn’t always advisable, because sellers are attached to their boats and buyers can use a sea trial to try to get the price down, but it is your decision.
Before a viewing, the boat should be clean, with its systems ready to demonstrate, the records to hand, access agreed and its condition described honestly. We agree each viewing with you, so the boat is ready when the buyer arrives.
You give us a mandate to sell your boat. When we have a suitable offer, we put it to you. If you accept, we go ahead; if you don’t, we ask the buyer for a counter-offer, and the decision at each step is yours.
Once you accept an offer, we ask the buyer for a 10% deposit, paid into an escrow account. He can then arrange a survey and have the boat lifted out of the water at Kardhamila, all at his own expense. If the survey is good, we go ahead with a sea trial, also at his expense, with a professional, insured captain, or with you on board if you prefer.
We then wait up to 15 working days for the survey report. If there is nothing structurally wrong with the boat, the sale goes ahead. If something is broken, it is fixed at the seller’s expense, and we organise the inspection and the solution. We also help you organise lifting the boat out of the water and give you a list of surveyors we are satisfied with, so the survey does not slow the sale down.
We organise the contract, the legal side and the transfer of ownership for your sale at Kardhamila, so you do nothing. The 10% deposit is paid into an escrow account, and the balance goes straight to the seller.
Changing flag or re-registering a boat makes the paperwork complicated, and insurance can be a problem. We check too that the boat has no finance outstanding on it.
With so much scamming around today, you want a representative managing the payment, not you alone. That is part of our work: we organise the contract, we deal with the legal side, and we see the transfer of ownership through, so the sale at Kardhamila is finished properly. For our 5% commission you are probably ahead anyway, and you do no work.

The northeast coast is exposed to strong northerly meltemi winds, which frequently affect conditions in the area. These winds contribute to short seas in the Chios Strait, impacting the local marine environment. Such conditions are typical during periods when the meltemi is active, creating a distinctive pattern of wind and sea states along the coast.
A boat based at Kardhamila can cruise to Chios Town, Oinousses, Psara, Lesbos and the Turkish coast. These destinations offer a range of sailing options from nearby Greek islands to the adjacent coastline. The best time to sail is not specified, allowing for flexibility depending on the vessel and crew. Each location presents different navigational considerations relevant to the region. This area provides varied routes for seasonal or occasional voyages.
Boats for sale Kardhamila are published in the European Yacht Brokers archive as local brokers add and verify them. If you are considering selling, your boat can be presented to buyers searching in this area and in nearby ports: give the model, year and condition for a first valuation.
Kardamyla lies 28 km north of Chios Town and consists of an older upper village with stone houses, narrow streets and covered passages. The lower settlement, Marmaro, occupies the sheltered bay. Local sights include the Sailor of Kardamyla statue, the ancient settlement of Spilia and the church of Agios Nikolaos.
Kardamyla is a northern-Chios community distinguished by a strong shipowning and seafaring tradition. It is divided between an older settlement situated on the hillside and the coastal district known as Marmaro. This division reflects the historic connection between the community’s maritime activities and its residential areas. The character of the area is shaped by this dual layout and its longstanding association with the sea.
Near Kardhamila, notable sights include the harbour promenade and the traditional upper village. Sailors’ monuments are present, reflecting the maritime heritage of the area. Visitors can also access the nearby Nagos and Giosonas beaches, which are among the principal attractions in the vicinity.
Near Kardhamila, water and electricity are available, along with restaurants and basic provisions. However, major fuel, chandlery and haul-out services were not confirmed in the area. This provides for essential supplies and amenities, while more specialised services may require travel elsewhere.
Chios Island hosts seasonal maritime and religious celebrations throughout the year, drawing on its maritime traditions and local customs. However, there is no confirmation of a recurring marina regatta taking place as part of the annual events. These celebrations offer varied opportunities to experience the island’s cultural calendar alongside its maritime activities.
Kardhamila is accessible via Chios Island National Airport Omiros (JKH). This airport serves local and regional flights. Further connections from the airport facilitate travel to national and international destinations. The journey to Kardhamila from the airport involves local access routes.
