This policy explains how European Yacht Brokers (“we”, “us”) collects and uses personal data when you visit this website, send us an enquiry or ask us to sell or find a boat. We are a yacht brokerage network operating in Europe and we comply with the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Who is responsible for your data
European Yacht Brokers is the data controller. For any question about this policy or your data, email us at info@europeanyachtbrokers.com.
What we collect
Enquiry and contact forms. Your name, email address, telephone number, the boat or marina you are asking about and the message you write. This data is stored in our website and our customer-relationship system so that we can reply to you.
Selling or buying a boat. If you instruct us, we also collect the details needed to market a boat or find one for you, such as boat specifications, photographs, location and your price expectations. We never publish a seller’s name, contact details or the exact berth of a boat without the owner’s agreement.
Website usage data. Pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and referring website, collected through Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager. This data is aggregated and used to improve the site.
Technical data. Your IP address and browser details are processed by our hosting and caching services to deliver the site securely and quickly.
Why we use your data and our legal basis
We use enquiry and contact data to answer you and, if you instruct us, to carry out the brokerage service (performance of a contract, or steps taken at your request before a contract). We use analytics data to understand and improve the website (your consent, or our legitimate interest where the law allows). We keep the records the law requires, including those relating to money-laundering checks on a sale (legal obligation).
Who we share data with
We share enquiry details with the broker handling your request, which may be a member of our European network in the country concerned. Our service providers process data on our instructions: website hosting, email delivery, customer-relationship software and Google (analytics). We may disclose data where the law requires it, for example to a harbour authority, registry, bank or surveyor, only when needed for a sale you have instructed. We do not sell your personal data.
International transfers
Some providers, including Google, may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where they do, the transfer relies on safeguards such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.
Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies to make the site work, remember your preferences and measure how it is used. Essential cookies are always on. Analytics cookies are set by Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager. You can refuse or delete cookies in your browser settings, and the site will still work.
How long we keep your data
Enquiries that do not lead to an instruction are kept for up to 24 months and then deleted. Records of an instructed sale are kept for as long as the law requires, normally up to six years. Analytics data is kept for the period set in our analytics account.
Your rights
You can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to our use of it, or move it to another provider. Where we rely on your consent you can withdraw it at any time. Email info@europeanyachtbrokers.com and we will reply within one month. You also have the right to complain to your national data-protection authority.
Marketing emails
We send newsletters or boat alerts only if you ask for them. Every message includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also email us to stop.
Other websites
This site links to marinas, shipyards and other third-party sites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, so please read their policies.
Changes to this policy
We will post any change here and update the date at the top.
