Selling a boat in Platania Marina
When the survey on your boat at Platania Marina turns up a problem, we organise the inspection and the solution, so the sale doesn’t stall. Beforehand, we check every buyer and organise the viewings and sea trials. At the end, we handle the contract, the legal side and the transfer of ownership. As the seller, you have nothing to do.
Every valuation starts with a detailed market study. We have access to data on boats that have actually sold, and for each boat we weigh its age, the prices obtained for similar boats, the options fitted, the condition, the service record and where it lies. There is no charge for the valuation, so you start from a figure grounded in real sales.
Condition, model, age and equipment set the value of a boat, and the area matters as well. Some boats sell better in America than in Greece, and vice versa, and a boat at Platania Marina is judged on that basis, which is why the area is part of every valuation we give.
The market matters too. When the economy is healthy, boats sell well, and when credit is easy to find, buyers can pay for them; when it dries up, fewer can. So we combine the valuation with patience and wide publicity on over 20 international platforms, on social media and on our own website, which attracts many buyers. In most cases, that finds the right buyer, and our commission is just 5%.

Handing over a boat and taking the money is where private sellers are most exposed. With so much scamming around today, you want a representative managing the payment. Finding a serious buyer is just as hard: owners who sell privately often meet around 20 tyre-kickers and time-wasters before they give up and call a broker.
It can be an unpleasant experience, like selling a second-hand car, with buyers who can be extremely disagreeable. The paperwork is complicated as well, especially if the boat changes flag or has to be re-registered. Insurance can be a problem, and someone has to check that the boat has no finance outstanding on it.
A broker will get a better price than you will, because it is his job. For our 5% commission you are very likely ahead anyway, and you do no work. Here at European Yacht Brokers, we speak six languages, list on over 20 international platforms including YachtWorld, and organise the contract, the legal side and the transfer of ownership for owners at Platania Marina.
You give us a mandate to sell your boat. We don’t always ask for exclusivity; we decide case by case. The contract can be terminated at any time.* *If a buyer we introduced during the mandate buys the boat later, we are still entitled to our commission.
A careful photo shoot, with the boat clean, tidy and shot in favourable light, is the first filter a buyer applies. Photos of the exterior, interior, deck, engine room and technical details, supplemented where useful by a short video, present the boat fully and consistently with the asking price, cutting down on pointless viewings.
The specification sheet gathers verified data: builder, model, year, dimensions, engines, equipment and work carried out. On this basis the listing is published on the main boating portals and shared with the broker network and professional contacts, to reach qualified buyers at home and abroad.
Before publication it helps to gather the ownership documents, the registration papers, evidence of VAT status where relevant, engine manuals, maintenance invoices and the inventory of equipment. Well-ordered paperwork speeds up the buyer’s checks and makes the negotiation more solid.
Every enquiry is checked before anyone sets foot on your boat. We confirm who the buyer is, whether the buyer is serious and what the buyer wants, so the tyre-kickers never reach your berth at Platania Marina. Because we advertise on over 20 international platforms and answer in six languages, enquiries come from buyers in many countries, and every one of them is checked the same way.
We arrange the viewings and the sea trial, so you don’t have to show anyone round yourself. The sea trial is at the buyer’s expense, with a professional, insured captain, or you can be present yourself. That isn’t always advisable, because sellers are attached to their boats and buyers can use a sea trial to push the price down, but the decision is yours.
Before a viewing, the boat should be clean, with its systems ready to demonstrate, the records to hand, access agreed and its condition described honestly. We agree each viewing with you, so the boat is ready when the buyer arrives.
You give us a mandate to sell your boat. When we have a suitable offer, we put it to you. If you accept, we go ahead; if you don’t, we ask the buyer for a counter-offer, and the decision at each step is yours.
Once you accept an offer, we ask the buyer for a 10% deposit, paid into an escrow account. He can then arrange a survey and have the boat lifted out of the water at Platania Marina, all at his own expense. If the survey is good, we go ahead with a sea trial, also at his expense, with a professional, insured captain, or with you on board if you prefer.
We then wait up to 15 working days for the survey report. If there is nothing structurally wrong with the boat, the sale goes ahead. If something is broken, it is fixed at the seller’s expense, and we organise the inspection and the solution. We also help you organise lifting the boat out of the water and give you a list of surveyors we are satisfied with, so the survey does not slow the sale down.
We organise the contract, the legal side and the transfer of ownership for your sale at Platania Marina, so you do nothing. The 10% deposit is paid into an escrow account, and the balance goes straight to the seller.
Changing flag or re-registering a boat makes the paperwork complicated, and insurance can be a problem. We check too that the boat has no finance outstanding on it.
With so much scamming about today, you want a representative managing the payment, not you alone. That is part of our work: we organise the contract, we deal with the legal side, and we see the transfer of ownership through, so the sale at Platania Marina is finished properly. For our 5% commission you are probably ahead anyway, and you do no work.
Seller's checklist

The harbour offers local shelter from most conditions but can be affected by strong easterly weather. Outside the marina, seas can become choppy due to meltemi-driven winds. These conditions may influence short-range passage planning and vessel handling in the surrounding area. Despite the shelter, attention should be paid when managing the boat under such wind patterns.
A vessel based at Platania Marina can access Skiathos, Skopelos, northern Evia, Trikeri and the Pagasetic Gulf. These destinations offer a variety of coastal cruising options. Sailing during the favourable months allows navigation through these waters with appropriate seasonal conditions. The range includes well-known islands and mainland points suitable for varied passages. This area accommodates both short trips and longer cruises within the northern Aegean region.
Boats for sale Platania Marina are published in the European Yacht Brokers archive as local brokers add and verify them. If you are considering selling, your boat can be presented to buyers searching in this area and in nearby ports: give the model, year and condition for a first valuation.
Platanias is a small fishing village located at the southern end of Mount Pelion, facing the Sporades across the Aegean Sea. Its position provides a traditional maritime setting typical of Continental Greece. The village maintains a modest character shaped by its fishing heritage and proximity to the surrounding landscape of Mount Pelion. The waters before the village are part of the Aegean, with views extending to the nearby Sporades islands, reflecting its geographic context in the region.
The principal attractions near Platania Marina include the waterfront and nearby beaches, which offer opportunities for relaxation and exploration. Coastal paths provide routes for walking along the shoreline. Excursions are available to Lafkos, Trikeri and villages in southern Pelion, showcasing local culture and landscapes.
Near Platania Marina, the village offers tavernas and food shops as well as water supplies. There is no confirmed availability of dependable fuel, pharmacy, ATM or major yacht repairs in the vicinity.
Seasonal village celebrations take place throughout Continental Greece, reflecting the local traditions and culture. However, there are no confirmed recurring events held at the marinas in this region. These festivities often mark various times of the year and bring communities together in their respective villages. While typical marina-based events are not established, the seasonal celebrations remain a notable aspect of local life in Continental Greece.
