The certification was possible thanks to the major work carried out to bring the shipyard fairing area up to environmental standards. But the history of this small town, after many vicissitudes and attachments to various local powers, is intimately linked to that of its neighbour: Monaco. Cap d’Ail has never had a definite maritime vocation, even if the cove of La Mala was able to serve on several occasions as a discreet shelter for the galleys who came to dump their armed men during attacks on the Principality.
It was not until 1880, when the road linking Nice to Monte-Carlo was opened that Cap d’Ail really took off, following in this the other resorts on the Côte d’Azur opening up to tourism. luxury in the context of the Belle Époque.
