Selling a boat in Kastro
Selling a boat at Kastro with us means there is nothing for you to do. We qualify the enquiries, run the viewings and sea trials, organise any inspection the survey calls for, and handle the contract, the legal side and the transfer of ownership, from offer to handover.
Every valuation starts with a detailed market study. We have access to sales data, and for each boat we weigh its age, the prices obtained for similar boats, the options fitted, the condition, the service record and where it lies. There is no charge for the valuation, so you begin from a figure grounded in real sales.
The value of a boat is set by its condition, its model, its age and its equipment, and the area matters as well. Some boats sell better in America than in Greece, and vice versa, and a boat at Kastro is judged on that basis, which is why the area is part of every valuation we give.
The market matters too. When the economy is strong, boats sell well, and when credit is available, buyers can pay for them; when it dries up, fewer can. So we pair the valuation with patience and wide publicity on over 20 international platforms, on social media and on our own website, which attracts many buyers. In most cases, that finds the right buyer, and our commission is just 5%.

The hardest part of selling a boat is finding a serious buyer. Owners who sell privately often meet around 20 tyre-kickers before they throw in the towel and call a broker. It can also be an unpleasant experience: much like selling a second-hand car, you meet buyers who can be extremely disagreeable.
Then comes the money. With so much scamming about today, you need a representative handling the payment, not you alone. The paperwork is complicated as well, particularly when the boat changes flag or must be re-registered. Insurance can be a problem, and someone has to check that the boat has no finance outstanding on it.
A broker will also get a better price than you will, because it is his job. For our 5% commission you are probably ahead anyway, and you do no work. Here at European Yacht Brokers, we speak six languages, advertise on over 20 international platforms including YachtWorld, and organise the contract, the legal side and the transfer of ownership for owners at Kastro.
You give us a mandate to sell your boat. Exclusivity is not always required, and we decide it case by case. The contract can be terminated at any time.* *If a buyer we introduced during the mandate buys the boat later, we are still entitled to our commission.
A careful photo shoot, with the boat clean, tidy and shot in favourable light, is the first filter a buyer applies. Photos of the exterior, interior, deck, engine room and technical details, supplemented where useful by a short video, present the boat fully and consistently with the asking price, cutting down on pointless viewings.
The specification sheet gathers verified data: builder, model, year, dimensions, engines, equipment and work carried out. On this basis the listing is published on the main boating portals and shared with the broker network and professional contacts, to reach qualified buyers at home and abroad.
Before publication it helps to gather the ownership documents, the registration papers, evidence of VAT status where relevant, engine manuals, maintenance invoices and the inventory of equipment. Well-ordered paperwork speeds up the buyer’s checks and makes the negotiation more solid.
Every enquiry is checked before anyone sets foot on your boat. We establish who the buyer is, whether the buyer is serious and what the buyer wants, so the tyre-kickers never reach your berth at Kastro. Because we advertise on over 20 international platforms and answer in six languages, enquiries come from buyers in many countries, and every one of them is checked the same way.
We arrange the viewings and the sea trial, so you do not need to show anyone round yourself. The sea trial is at the buyer’s expense, with a professional, insured captain, or you can come along yourself. That isn’t always advisable, because sellers are attached to their boats and buyers can use a sea trial to try to get the price down, but the decision is yours.
Before a viewing, the boat should be clean, with its systems ready to demonstrate, the records to hand, access agreed and its condition described honestly. We tell you when a viewing is booked, so the boat is ready when the buyer arrives.
You give us a mandate to sell your boat. We put every suitable offer to you. If you accept, we go ahead; if you don’t, we ask the buyer for a counter-offer, and the decision at each step is yours.
Once you accept an offer, we ask the buyer for a 10% deposit, paid into an escrow account. He can then arrange a survey and have the boat lifted out of the water at Kastro, all at his own expense. If the survey is good, we go ahead with a sea trial, also at his expense, with a professional, insured captain, or with you on board if you prefer.
We then wait up to 15 working days for the survey report. If there is nothing structurally wrong with the boat, the sale goes ahead. If something is broken, it is fixed at the seller’s expense, and we organise the inspection and the solution. We also help you organise lifting the boat out of the water and give you a list of surveyors we are satisfied with, so the survey does not slow the sale down.
We take care of the contract, the legal side and the transfer of ownership for your sale at Kastro, so you do nothing. The 10% deposit is paid into an escrow account, and the balance goes straight to the seller.
The paperwork can be complicated, especially if the boat changes flag or has to be re-registered, and insurance can be a problem. We check too that the boat has no finance outstanding on it.
With so much scamming about today, you need a representative managing the payment, not you alone. That is part of our work: we arrange the contract, we deal with the legal side, and we see the transfer of ownership through, so the sale at Kastro is finished properly. For our 5% commission you are probably ahead anyway, and you do no work.
Seller's checklist
Sell my boat Kastro with European Yacht Brokers, acting for owners here from our Athens head office.
The east-coast harbour at Kastro is open to strong meltemi winds, which regularly influence conditions. These winds combine with the Aegean swell, creating a dynamic sea environment. Mariners should be prepared for the effects of both wind and waves when moored in this area. Seasonal variation in the strength of the meltemi can significantly affect sailing and anchoring. Careful consideration is advised when planning passages or stays in the harbour.
A vessel based at Kastro can cruise to Korthi, Tinos, Syros, Gavrio and the northern Cyclades when the weather is settled. These destinations offer a range of options for varied itineraries throughout the sailing season. Navigation between these points requires careful consideration of local conditions. Sailing during periods of settled weather allows for safer and more comfortable passages across these areas.
Boats for sale Kastro are published in the European Yacht Brokers archive as local brokers add and verify them. If you are considering selling, your boat can be presented to buyers searching in this area and in nearby ports: give the model, year and condition for a first valuation.
Chora, Andros’s historic capital, occupies a narrow peninsula between two beaches and reflects a blend of medieval, Venetian and neoclassical influences in its architecture and layout. The character of the town is marked by this layering of history, visible in its streets and buildings. Its coastal position contributes to the sense of place while preserving its historic form. This combination makes Chora a distinct example of the island’s varied past.
Near Kastro, visitors can explore the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art, which provide insights into the area’s history and artistic development. The Maritime Museum offers further context relevant to the coastal setting, complemented by coastal walks that allow for extended views of the surroundings. The Tourlitis lighthouse and the remains of the castle are among the principal attractions in the area, offering a glimpse into the maritime and defensive heritage of the location.
Chora offers supermarkets, pharmacies, ATMs and restaurants for provisioning and basic needs. The small harbour there provides water and a crane for use. For major repairs, assistance is available in Gavrio.
The Andros International Festival hosts summer performances in Chora, providing a regular cultural event during the season. This festival attracts visitors for its artistic presentations, while contributing to the seasonal atmosphere on the island. It is a noted annual occasion in the local calendar. The festival’s timing and extent make it a significant part of the island’s summer schedule.
