IN BRIEF

Which yacht broker do you need at Hydra Harbour?

Three questions decide which yacht broker you need at Hydra Harbour. Are you selling? Then you want a seller’s broker, who markets the yacht and passes you the offers. Are you buying? Then you want a buyer’s broker, who researches the market and negotiates for you. Want one person to see the whole deal through? A full-service broker can do that and, if both parties agree in writing, represent both sides. Details of each follow.

Whether you are listing a yacht or looking for one, you deal with brokers who know the process from the first enquiry to the transfer of funds. Our Athens head office connects you with a local broker for Attica; the valuation is free, the commission is just 5%, and your yacht reaches buyers on over 20 platforms across Europe. Tell us what you need and we will say how we can help at Hydra Harbour.

Seller's listing broker with a limited service

Selling a yacht kept at Hydra Harbour? Our seller’s broker takes the work off you: a valuation at no charge, photographs and particulars, advertising on over 20 international platforms, the enquiries and the viewings. The agreement says what is included, how long it lasts and what commission is payable (just 5%), so there are no surprises.

The owner appoints a seller’s listing broker to take the yacht to market and find a buyer. Typical help includes agreeing an asking price, gathering the specifications and photographs, preparing the listing, advertising the yacht, answering enquiries and arranging viewings. The listing agreement should state whether the appointment is exclusive or open, its duration, the commission payable and the services the broker has agreed to provide.

Not every seller wants a full service. Some ask only for listing and marketing: the broker advertises the yacht, passes any offer to the owner and does not take responsibility for negotiating or managing the rest of the sale. That can be a properly defined service, but it does not describe every seller’s broker. Sale guidance often covers the work after an offer too: Horizon Yachts International describes the deposit, survey and sea-trial stages, and YachtWorld notes that a broker may arrange a survey and sea trial.

Be clear, before signing, about what the broker takes on. Negotiating price and conditions, preparing or explaining paperwork, tracking deadlines and contingencies, arranging survey and sea-trial access, coordinating closing, payment and transfer documents: each is either included or it is not, and any that are excluded may call for separate professional help.

The broker who lists the yacht represents the seller under the listing relationship. A buyer approaching that broker should ask whom the broker acts for and whether to appoint a separate representative. A buyer may also be introduced by another broker through co-brokerage, with the firms sharing commission according to their agreement, so the seller should confirm how that affects the fee and service under their own contract. Read it as a seller’s listing broker with a deliberately limited scope rather than a general definition, whether the yacht is at Hydra Harbour or elsewhere.

Yacht ownership handover with European Yacht Brokers

Buyer's broker representing the purchaser

Buying a yacht abroad is easier with someone on your side. At Hydra Harbour, our buyer’s broker listens to what you want, finds suitable boats, helps you compare them and negotiate an offer, and keeps the survey, sea trial and closing moving. A local broker can reach any Greek marina in less than an hour, and we speak six languages.

A buyer’s broker is engaged to represent the purchaser throughout the search and purchase. The first step can be a discussion of what the buyer wants: yacht type, size, budget, location and priorities. The broker can then study the market, pick out possible boats, gather information from the listing brokers, check the available records and help the buyer weigh up the choices. Some also preview yachts or set up remote viewings, so the client can shortlist before making a journey.

With a yacht identified, the broker can prepare and negotiate the offer with the buyer, explain the transaction’s steps and deadlines and work with the seller’s listing broker. The process may bring a purchase agreement, deposit and escrow arrangements, an independent marine survey, specialist inspections, a sea trial and more discussions afterwards. The broker can coordinate those steps and keep communication moving. The independent technical inspection is the surveyor’s work, and the broker does not replace it.

Some yacht brokerages publish what their buyer services include: research, negotiation, survey coordination, sea-trial arrangements and assistance with closing documentation. At Curtis Stokes & Associates that means helping buyers research and preview yachts, prepare offers, negotiate and find surveyors and documentation support; HMY describes coordinating survey and sea-trial stages, post-survey discussions and closing. Since services vary, buyers should ask what the broker will handle and what remains theirs.

How the broker is paid depends on the arrangement: an agreed share of the commission through a cooperating listing broker, or a fee owed by the buyer under a separate representation agreement. Get the fee, the duration, the scope of authority and any exclusivity in writing before the search starts. A buyer’s broker gives the purchaser a dedicated representative across a wider search, including yachts listed by another brokerage. If you are shortlisting boats near Hydra Harbour, put these questions to every broker first.

Full-service broker representing both parties

At Hydra Harbour, European Yacht Brokers can act as a full-service broker: one team that looks after the sale from the first conversation to the transfer of funds. Where you want us to represent both buyer and seller, the arrangement is set out in writing for both parties.

A full-service yacht broker can run a sale from the first conversation with the owner to completion. The work may include assessing the yacht and its asking price, preparing photographs and particulars, advertising, answering enquiries, arranging viewings, passing on offers and helping the parties take an accepted offer through contract, deposit, survey, sea trial and closing. The agreement may also cover documentation, escrow arrangements, delivery and other practical matters. The listing and sale documents should set out the precise service.

Dual agency, in the words of the Yacht Brokers Association of America, is one broker representing both parties in the same transaction, and it is what this profile describes: a broker dealing directly with the buyer while representing buyer and seller. It is not the same as a listing broker who helps a buyer but stays appointed by the seller. The buyer should ask for the relationship to be explained before making an offer.

Buyer and seller want different things. Generally the seller seeks the strongest price and terms, while the buyer wants a suitable yacht at a fair price and has to make informed decisions about its condition. One broker for both cannot negotiate privately for each side as two independent representatives would. The YBAA discussion stresses transparency about the arrangement and careful handling of confidential information. Because the rules and permitted arrangements vary by jurisdiction, the parties should rely on the written agreement and local advice.

The commission is often dealt with in the seller’s listing agreement, but payment arrangements vary, so a buyer should check whether any separate fee is owed. Remember that full-service describes the range of work, while dual agency describes whom the broker represents. A broker can offer extensive transaction support without representing both sides.

How European Yacht Brokers operates in Greece and at Hydra Harbour

European Yacht Brokers directs its Greek operations from Athens, with brokers serving coastal regions and many marinas throughout the country. Start with the Athens team, who will connect you with the broker responsible for your area. The regional network lets us arrange for a broker to reach any Greek marina in under an hour; the local broker can arrange a visit to your boat and provide a valuation free of charge.

Our people are where your boat is. Delegates and agents work across every coastal region of Greece, namely Attica, Central Greece, Central Macedonia, Crete, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Epirus, the Ionian Islands, the North Aegean, the Peloponnese, the South Aegean, Thessaly and Western Greece, so a client at Hydra Harbour in Attica can have the local broker visit the boat and talk things through quickly, while the Athens head office stays your single point of contact.

Start a valuation by downloading our Sales Mandate and Evaluation Sheet. From the boat’s details and condition we can study the market and produce a precise, evidence-based valuation, drawing on the sales data we hold for boats worldwide over the past three years. Remember that a valuation assesses likely market value; it does not guarantee the eventual sale price.

After appointment, your regional broker handles finding a buyer, or the right boat for you, and guides you through the transaction to completion and the successful transfer of funds. We advertise across over 20 platforms throughout Europe so boats are seen beyond the Greek market, and reaching international buyers can often help secure a stronger price than relying on local demand alone. Six languages are spoken between our brokers, so someone can talk to you in yours.

Hydra Harbour and Hydra: the marina and the area

Buyers rarely look only at the boat. They look at where it is kept, and at Hydra Harbour that means Hydra, in Attica. The notes below cover the marina, the town and the area around it, drawn from the marina’s own information and from local sources.

Hydra Harbour is administered by the Hydra Municipal Port Fund and accommodates ferries, fishing boats and yachts. The marina is lined with shops and services along the harbourfront. Lifting and launching facilities are provided by the Hydra Marine shipyard. Technical support for yacht electronics and automation is available through GLEMTECH. The harbour takes boats up to its longest specified size. Berthing spaces are available for a variety of vessels within the marina.

Hydra Harbour is the focal point of Hydra town, itself a protected historic settlement built around a car-free amphitheatrical harbour. The town’s merchant families and fleet were notable during the Greek War of Independence. The island’s official site documents its maritime history and museums, while the municipal site lists beaches, historic mansions, and art venues. The official tourism site highlights walks through the town and harbour, nature trails, swimming, and seafood. Fishing activity remains visible along the waterfront, which is lined with shops and cafés within the historic harbour town on the island of Attica.

The port area accommodates passenger ferries operating from the quay, with water taxis and boats providing further access. The harbour is surrounded by food shops, cafés, tavernas, pharmacies, and ATMs. Coastal walks lead to destinations such as Kamini, Vlychos, and Mandraki. Points of interest include the Museum of History and Archives, the Lazaros Koundouriotis Mansion, art galleries, and monasteries. While major yacht repairs and haul-out facilities are limited, various local services support boating activity in Hydra Harbour.

Boats on the market near Hydra Harbour

Yachts for sale in the Hydra Harbour area are added to the European Yacht Brokers archive by local brokers, who verify each one. If nothing listed suits you, the local broker can search wider on a buyer’s behalf; if you are the owner, your boat can be presented to buyers searching here and in nearby ports.

Sailing from Hydra Harbour: winds, cruising and the season

Hydra Harbour experiences strong winds and occasional swell at the entrance, making conditions difficult at times. The harbour itself becomes extremely crowded, with crossed anchors common and wash from ferries affecting the water. Located between the Saronic and Argolic gulfs, the marina serves as a starting point for yachts cruising to Poros, Dokos, Spetses, Ermioni, Methana and Aegina.

Nearby anchorages include Kameni, Molos, Bali, Agios Georgios, Bisti, Agios Nikolaos, Limioniza and Mandraki, with routes continuing toward Ermioni, Dokos and the Argolic coast. The sailing season features two regatta races held Fridays to Sundays during the weeks of 25 March and 28 October, while spring and autumn offer a chance to avoid the busiest summer congestion in the area.

Call or WhatsApp the Athens team on +30 698 013 5656 and ask for the broker covering Hydra: a free valuation for sellers, a search for buyers and one point of contact for both.

Frequently asked questions about yacht brokers

Is the appointment exclusive?

The listing agreement should say whether it is exclusive or open, how long it lasts and what commission is payable. We don’t always ask for exclusivity; we decide case by case.

What does a buyer’s broker do?

A broker appointed by the buyer acts for the purchaser, researching the market, identifying boats, comparing options, and helping prepare and negotiate an offer.

Can one broker act for both the buyer and the seller?

Yes, this is called dual agency: one broker represents both parties in the same transaction. The buyer should ask the broker to explain the arrangement before making an offer. The rules vary by jurisdiction.

How much does European Yacht Brokers charge?

Our commission is exactly 5% and the valuation is free.

Who deals with the contract and the legal side?

We do. We organise the contract, the legal side and the transfer of ownership, so you have nothing to do.

Owners or buyers interested in yachts around Hydra Harbour may contact the European Yacht Brokers Athens team with details to connect to the local broker.
