Selling a boat in Port Kioni
From first enquiry to final handover, European Yacht Brokers look after the sale of your boat at Port Kioni in Ithaki Island. We check every buyer, organise the viewings and sea trials, organise any inspection after the survey, and take care of the contract, the legal side and the transfer of ownership. You have nothing to do.
Every valuation starts with a detailed market study. We have access to sales data, and for each boat we weigh the age, the prices obtained for comparable boats, its options, the condition, the service history and the area. The valuation is free, so you begin from a figure grounded in real sales.
Condition, model, age and equipment set the value of a boat, and the area matters as well. Some boats sell better in America than in Greece, and the other way round, and a boat at Port Kioni is judged on that basis, which is why the area is part of every valuation we give.
The market matters too. When the economy is strong, boats sell well, and when credit is available, buyers can pay for them; when it dries up, fewer can. So we pair the valuation with patience and extensive publicity on over 20 international platforms, on social media and on our own website, which attracts many buyers. Usually, that finds the right buyer, and our commission is just 5%.

The hardest part of selling a boat is finding a serious buyer. Owners who sell privately often meet around 20 tyre-kickers before they give up and turn to a broker. It can also be an unpleasant experience: much like selling a second-hand car, you meet buyers who can be extremely disagreeable.
Then there is the money. With so much scamming about today, you want a representative handling the payment, not you alone. The paperwork is complicated too, particularly when the boat changes flag or must be re-registered. Insurance can be a problem, and someone has to check that the boat has no finance outstanding on it.
A broker also gets a better price than you will, and that is his job. For a 5% commission you are very likely ahead anyway, and you do no work. At European Yacht Brokers, we speak six languages, list on over 20 international platforms including YachtWorld, and organise the contract, the legal side and the transfer of ownership for owners at Port Kioni.
You give us a mandate to sell your boat. Exclusivity is not always required, and we decide it case by case. You can terminate the contract at any time.* *If a buyer we introduced during the mandate buys the boat later, we are still entitled to our commission.
A careful photo shoot, with the boat clean, tidy and shot in favourable light, is the first filter a buyer applies. Photos of the exterior, interior, deck, engine room and technical details, supplemented where useful by a short video, present the boat fully and consistently with the asking price, cutting down on pointless viewings.
The specification sheet gathers verified data: builder, model, year, dimensions, engines, equipment and work carried out. On this basis the listing is published on the main boating portals and shared with the broker network and professional contacts, to reach qualified buyers at home and abroad.
Before publication it helps to gather the ownership documents, the registration papers, evidence of VAT status where relevant, engine manuals, maintenance invoices and the inventory of equipment. Well-ordered paperwork speeds up the buyer’s checks and makes the negotiation more solid.
Every enquiry is checked before anyone sets foot on your boat. We confirm who the buyer is, whether the buyer is serious and what the buyer wants, so the time-wasters never reach your berth at Port Kioni. Because we advertise on over 20 international platforms and answer in six languages, enquiries come from buyers in many countries, and every one of them is checked the same way.
We organise the viewings and the sea trial, so you do not need to show anyone round yourself. The sea trial is at the buyer’s expense, with a professional, insured captain, or you can come along yourself. That isn’t always advisable, because sellers are attached to their boats and buyers can use a sea trial to try to get the price down, but the decision is yours.
Before a viewing, the boat should be clean, with its systems ready to demonstrate, the records to hand, access agreed and its condition described honestly. We tell you when a viewing is booked, so the boat is ready when the buyer arrives.
You give us a mandate to sell your boat. We put every suitable offer to you. If you accept, we go ahead; if you don’t, we ask the buyer for a counter-offer, and the decision at each step is yours.
Once you accept an offer, we ask the buyer for a 10% deposit, paid into an escrow account. He can then arrange a survey and have the boat lifted out of the water at Port Kioni, all at his own expense. If the survey is good, we go ahead with a sea trial, also at his expense, with a professional, insured captain, or with you on board if you prefer.
We then wait up to 15 working days for the survey report. If there is nothing structurally wrong with the boat, the sale goes ahead. If something is broken, it is fixed at the seller’s expense, and we organise the inspection and the solution. We also help you organise lifting the boat out of the water and give you a list of surveyors we are satisfied with, so the survey does not slow the sale down.
We take care of the contract, the legal side and the transfer of ownership for your sale at Port Kioni, so you have nothing to do. The 10% deposit is paid into an escrow account, and the balance goes straight to the seller.
The paperwork can be complicated, especially if the boat changes flag or has to be re-registered, and insurance can be a problem. We also check that the boat has no finance outstanding on it.
With so much scamming around today, you need a representative handling the payment, not you alone. That is part of our work: we organise the contract, we deal with the legal side, and we see the transfer of ownership through, so the sale at Port Kioni is finished properly. For our 5% commission you are probably ahead anyway, and you do no work.

The inlet provides good shelter from several directions, making it generally suitable for mooring. However, conditions can become uncomfortable in strong easterly weather. These winds may cause increased sea disturbance within the inlet. Careful consideration of the weather forecast is advisable when planning to keep a boat in this location.
From a yacht based at Port Kioni, cruising can include destinations such as Frikes, Fiskardo, Vathy, Meganisi and Lefkas. These locations form a practical itinerary for voyages originating from this harbour. Sailing conditions in the area are generally suitable for navigation during the traditional Mediterranean season, typically from late spring through early autumn. Distances between these points allow for manageable daily passages. Planning should take into account prevailing weather patterns to make sure safe and efficient travel.
Boats for sale Port Kioni are published in the European Yacht Brokers archive as local brokers add and verify them. If you are considering selling, your boat can be presented to buyers searching in this area and in nearby ports: give the model, year and condition for a first valuation.
Kioni is a coastal village located in northeast Ithaca. It offers access to the surrounding waters and is part of Ithaki Island. The village provides local amenities for residents and visitors within this part of the island. Its setting is defined by its position along the coast, contributing to its connections with maritime activity.
Kioni is a northern village on Ithaki Island that has been preserved and rebuilt following the 1953 earthquake. It is constructed around a narrow natural harbour which defines its layout. The reconstruction efforts have maintained much of the village’s original character despite the extensive damage sustained. This area remains representative of the island’s historical architectural style and geographical features. The village’s location on Ithaki contributes to its particular cultural and environmental identity.
Port Kioni offers a selection of traditional houses and waterfront windmills that contribute to its character. Several small beaches provide opportunities for quiet relaxation. There are also walks available towards Frikes and the northern hills, which attract visitors interested in the local landscape and surroundings.
The village offers tavernas and seasonal food shops, though supplies and water are limited. For major fuel, haul-out, and repairs, another port must be used. These services are not available locally, requiring travel for more extensive provisioning and maintenance. This arrangement should be considered when planning visits or stays at Port Kioni.
Annual events on Ithaki Island include a range of local religious and summer celebrations, reflecting the customs of the area. There is no confirmation of a recurring harbour regatta taking place. These events provide a regular calendar of cultural activities throughout the year for both residents and visitors.
Kefalonia International Airport Anna Pollatou (EFL) serves as the main entry point for reaching Port Kioni. Passengers arriving here require an onward ferry connection to access the destination. Car hire options available at the airport include Avis Budget, Enterprise and Hertz Thrifty, providing additional mobility for onward travel.
