THE EYB COUNTRY GUIDES · Greece
Check an actual port tariff, separate cruising fees and obtain a complete berthing proposal.

Berth costs Greece budgets work best when they start with the actual boat, location and dates. An official port calculator can explain a charging method, but it does not allocate a berth or establish one price for every marina. This guide uses a public port example and official cruising-fee and document guidance. Practical quote and ownership-change checks are labelled as recommendations, with no invented national average, seasonal premium or guarantee of local availability.
It is for buyers planning ownership costs and sellers organising a handover or departure. Ask the intended managing body to confirm its current tariff, services and contracting arrangements for the vessel. Keep port charges, storage and the separate cruising fee distinct, and confirm administrative requirements with the relevant authority or a qualified adviser. Berth costs in Greece should be checked against the exact port or marina and the boat's documented dimensions. Our recommendation is to identify the managing body before seeking a quote and ask which tariff applies to the intended use. The Municipal Port Fund of Kos provides an official calculator with categories for small craft, private pleasure vessels and professional vessels. Its page expressly says the amounts are indicative and each port body may apply its own tariff. That warning rules out presenting its figures as a universal price for every Greek berth.
The Kos calculator's published tariff table states effectiveness from the eighth of July 2021 and gives private pleasure-vessel annual rates per metre in length bands. For lengths from 7.01 to ten metres it gives one hundred and fifty euros per metre per year; from 10.01 to fifteen metres, one hundred and seventy; from 15.01 metres upwards, two hundred. Our recommendation is to obtain a written confirmation for the intended port and dates before using those published base figures in a purchase budget or assuming they include every service.
The same calculator converts the annual boat charge into a daily charge by dividing by three hundred and sixty-five and rounding to two decimal places. It also distinguishes stern berthing from alongside berthing with a twenty-five per cent addition. Our recommendation is to ask the managing body which arrangement is authorised for the particular vessel. Do not confuse an indicative cost calculation with allocation of a physical place. This guide does not establish an availability shortage, waiting-list length or standard seasonal premium from that tariff page.
Broker tip: Our recommendation is to use the official table as a question list for the intended port. Obtain a written quote and berth confirmation before treating an indicative calculation as your payable bill. A related question is answered in our guide on what boat insurance you need in Greece.

Section 2
Our recommendation is to request a written proposal naming the boat, owner, dates, permitted mooring arrangement and services. Ask whether water, electricity, waste reception, storage and any access or yard work are included, separately charged or unavailable. These are practical comparison questions, not a claim that all ports supply the same facilities. A quoted amount cannot be assessed accurately while the scope is unknown. Keep the managing body's answer with the proposed purchase budget rather than replace it with a seller's recollection of earlier payments.
Our recommendation is to ask whether the arrangement can be made for the new owner and what happens when the boat changes hands. No opened official source in this guide establishes automatic transfer of every berth with a yacht. Confirm the actual allocation, contract terms and arrival instructions directly with the managing body. A payment receipt records a payment; it should not be described as a general transferable right without evidence of the arrangement. Plan an alternative location if the intended berth has not been expressly confirmed.
Our recommendation is to compare the same period, boat dimensions and services when weighing alternatives. Separate compulsory authority charges from optional services and deposits, and ask how cancellation or early departure affects a payment. The Kos page warns that its calculator is indicative, so this guide does not use a sample result as a guaranteed invoice. It also gives no invented marina average, customary annual discount or claim that a particular region is cheaper. A useful budget follows the actual proposal rather than a presumed market pattern.
Broker tip: Our recommendation is to ask for the named boat, contracting owner, dates and included services in one written proposal. Check berth allocation separately from price, and confirm any ownership-change arrangement directly. See also our guide on how to buy a boat in Greece.

Section 3
The recreational cruising fee (Τέλος Πλοίων Αναψυχής και Ημερόπλοιων, TEPAI) is a separate budget item. AADE's January 2026 FAQ states that qualifying private sailing or motorised pleasure boats with overall length over seven metres in Greek territorial waters are within its scope regardless of flag. Our recommendation is to ask about this separately from the port invoice. A fee arising from the vessel's presence in Greek waters should not be described as payment for a particular mooring place, and a berth payment should not be treated as proving TEPAI has been settled.
The same FAQ publishes monthly TEPAI amounts by overall length: sixteen euros above seven and up to eight metres; twenty-five above eight and up to ten; thirty-three above ten and up to twelve; and eight euros per metre from the first metre for boats above twelve. Our recommendation is to verify the length recorded on the relevant boat documents and the applicable payment period before budgeting. These are the official cruising-fee bands, not marina tariffs, and should not be used to infer what a port or private marina will charge for berthing.
For an entering liable boat, AADE requires TEPAI payment before or at entry and then before each subsequent month of stay starts. Its FAQ also says the fee is not imposed on boats outside Greek territorial waters, which includes its stated explanation of boats on land. Our recommendation is to tell the authority precisely where the boat will be kept and confirm any applicable exception or formal status. Do not assume that calling a boat winterised creates an exemption, or that a storage agreement itself settles the tax position. No national marina average, regional berth shortage, waiting-list period, seasonal premium or automatic berth transfer verified. Kos calculator values are expressly indicative and port-specific; a payable quote must be obtained from the intended managing body. For these, email us at info@europeanyachtbrokers.com for the latest information.
Broker tip: Our recommendation is to put berth or storage charges and TEPAI in separate lines. Confirm the boat's length, actual location and payment period rather than assuming one receipt settles both obligations. Readers often go on to our guide on what it costs to sell a boat in Greece.

The current Mitos renewal procedure for the stated recreational-craft navigation permit up to ten metres lists proof of applicable port-fee payment among its supporting documents. Our recommendation is to retain the relevant receipts with the boat's administrative file. This specific document requirement is not a nationwide marina-price rule and does not determine every port charge. If an adviser or seller says the paperwork is complete, ask which receipts and authority responses support that statement rather than assuming every payment can be reconstructed after handover.
The same procedure describes an alternative declaration when the boat is not berthed in public common-use port areas managed by the state, a public-law body or the stated public-utility company category. Our recommendation is to ask the receiving authority which evidence fits your actual berthing arrangements. Do not treat that documentary alternative as a general declaration that all private-marina charges are exempt or all vessels have no port obligations. It concerns the specified renewal application and conditions, and the guide keeps that administrative scope explicit.
Our recommendation is to confirm the final bill, departure arrangements and any continuing account responsibility directly with the managing body before completing a sale or moving the boat. Match each payment to its period and service, and obtain written clarification of disputed or unidentified amounts. No official source reviewed here establishes an automatic berth transfer, a national annual price or typical local paperwork delays. Use the official calculator's own warning as a reason to obtain the specific port's answer, then keep that answer alongside the receipts and proposed budget.
Broker tip: Our recommendation is to retain receipts by period and ask the authority which payment evidence is required. Confirm departure and ownership-change arrangements directly with the port rather than relying on a transferable-berth assumption. Your questions
No universal price is established by the opened official sources. The Kos calculator expressly says its amounts are indicative and individual port bodies may apply their own tariffs. Our recommendation is to obtain the intended port's written proposal for the actual boat, dates and services, and confirm berth allocation separately from an indicative calculation. (Municipal Port Fund of Kos)
It publishes annual base rates per metre in length bands: one hundred and fifty euros from 7.01 to ten metres, one hundred and seventy from 10.01 to fifteen, and two hundred from 15.01 upwards. The table states effectiveness from the eighth of July 2021 and the page warns results are indicative. Confirm the intended port's payable tariff before relying on them. (Municipal Port Fund of Kos)
This guide treats it separately: AADE describes a cruising fee for qualifying boats in Greek territorial waters, while the port calculator addresses berthing charges. No source here establishes that a particular marina quote includes TEPAI. Our recommendation is to ask separately about each obligation and retain the relevant payment evidence rather than assume one invoice covers both. (AADE; Municipal Port Fund of Kos)
AADE's FAQ says the fee is not imposed on boats outside Greek territorial waters and explains the position of a boat on land. Our recommendation is to confirm the actual location and any required formal status with the authority, while checking storage charges separately with the provider. Do not turn an informal description such as winterised into an unsupported exemption. (AADE)
Yes, the stated Mitos navigation-permit renewal procedure up to ten metres lists proof of applicable port-fee payment. It also describes an alternative declaration for the specified non-public-port berthing circumstances. Our recommendation is to retain the receipts and ask the authority which evidence applies to the actual arrangement; this specific document rule does not determine every marina charge. (Mitos)
