THE EYB COUNTRY GUIDES · Italy
Check a real municipal tariff, the cost including VAT and the conditions for securing a berth.
By Peter Mattey · 9 min read · Facts checked 2026-10-03
Researching berth costs Italy means identifying a harbour, a boat category and a period of stay before comparing prices. A tariff is useful evidence, but it is not proof that a place is available. This guide uses official municipal sources to show how to read a quotation and how an allocation process can affect a purchase. It includes a named Anzio price example rather than presenting a local charge as a national average.
The guidance is for buyers choosing a base and sellers answering questions about an existing berth. It covers dimensions, application documents, published VAT treatment and allocation conditions. Local examples from Lazio, Liguria and Sardinia stay attached to their source harbour; practical recommendations are distinguished from the municipality's published requirements. For anything this guide does not cover, email us at info@europeanyachtbrokers.com for the latest information.
Key facts at a glance

Compare a named berth with another named berth, rather than treating a regional average as a quotation. Camogli describes tariff differences by vessel type, boat length and the duration of the stay. Those are useful starting questions for an owner choosing a base in Liguria. Ask the harbour office which category fits your boat and whether the advertised product is a seasonal agreement, an annual place or a visiting berth. Keep its answer with the quotation so the comparison remains clear.
Use the boat's actual dimensions when seeking an offer. Anzio asks applicants to specify length, beam and draught, alongside the requested period and residence status. A length-only enquiry leaves the harbour office without information its application process requests. For a buyer, ask the seller for the measurement documents before requesting a place. As a practical precaution, discuss projections such as a bathing platform with the operator rather than silently assuming the builder's model name establishes the berth category.
A price schedule and an available berth answer different questions. The municipal allocation page at Anzio describes applications and rankings, not an unconditional reservation for everyone who can pay the tariff. Before committing to a boat purchase, request written confirmation of the place offered and the period covered. Keep the sale negotiation separate from the harbour application. Treat any statement that the seller's berth comes with the yacht as something requiring the operator's written agreement, not as evidence of availability.
Broker tip: Ask each harbour for a written offer using the same boat dimensions and dates. Compare the berth product and the allocation conditions alongside the price, so a cheaper quotation does not conceal a different stay. Choosing a berth
Section 2
Begin with the current application instructions for the harbour itself. At Anzio, the applicant supplies identification, the subscribed insurance policy and the engine booklet with the application. Gather those documents before completing the request, and ask the office how it wants documents for a boat that is still under purchase. This is a local application requirement, not a claim that every Italian marina uses the same checklist. A broker can help assemble the papers, but the applicant remains responsible for their accuracy.
Palau uses a different submission route. Its municipal page instructs applicants to send the complete request through certified electronic mail, known as posta elettronica certificata (PEC), to the municipal protocol address. The PEC account need not belong to the applicant. Requests sent to other email addresses or before the specified opening time are not considered for allocation. Check the live notice before pressing send; ordinary correspondence with a marina office is not a substitute for the formal submission channel.
Follow the application through to an explicit decision, then review the agreement and payment request. Anzio says applications are evaluated into allocation rankings under its harbour rules. A submitted form therefore does not establish that the requested berth has been awarded. Keep the submission acknowledgement and supporting documents together, and confirm how an award is communicated. If the yacht sale depends on remaining in that harbour, put the need for a confirmed berth into the transaction planning before releasing funds or scheduling delivery.
Broker tip: Prepare the application before its opening time and keep evidence of submission. If you are buying the boat, ask the harbour how to describe pending ownership rather than filing documents that misidentify the applicant. Our guide on how to buy a boat in Italy covers a related point.

Section 3
Anzio's quay schedule provides a concrete example of the difference between a daily berth and an annual product. The relevant row for a place up to twelve metres long and the stated maximum beam has separate annual, summer-period, winter-period and daily amounts. These are local published charges, not an Italian average or a quotation for a yacht elsewhere. Match both dimensions to the correct row before doing arithmetic, and ask the office whether the particular place and product are available.
The worked example uses the published annual amount for the twelve-metre quay category. The harbour schedule labels its prices as excluding VAT and states the applicable percentage. Adding that percentage gives the gross annual berth amount shown in the fact below. The owner taking the berth should budget that gross amount rather than the printed net tariff alone. This calculation covers the tariff and its stated VAT only; it does not invent prices for electricity, water, deposits, parking or other services.
Multihulls require a separate check because the same Anzio schedule states a surcharge. Do not compare its printed monohull row with another harbour's catamaran quotation without checking the product being priced. Request a written total identifying the vessel, the applicable category, the stay and the tax treatment. If ancillary services are billed separately, add only the amounts in that offer. A complete ownership budget uses the confirmed berth charge alongside insurance and maintenance, rather than treating the boat's purchase price as the whole commitment. Electricity, water, deposits, parking, transferability, cancellation charges and tariffs for other harbours are not covered here: email us at info@europeanyachtbrokers.com for the latest information.
Broker tip: Ask for a gross written total and a list of services included. Keep the tariff's dimensional category beside your boat details, and obtain a separate confirmation of the multihull treatment when applicable. Resident status can change the allocation process without guaranteeing a discounted place for every boat. Palau publishes separate categories for residents, nautical operators and other staying or temporary users. The page also limits a resident household's entitlement and removes the resident tariff concession for units above its stated length threshold. A purchaser moving a larger yacht into the harbour should therefore check the correct category instead of assuming a local address gives access to all resident arrangements or prices.
Other users at Palau enter the allocation process after the resident and nautical-operator categories have been determined. Applications for staying and temporary users are then handled chronologically, subject to availability in each category. Read that condition before relying on a seller's account of past berthing arrangements. For practical planning, seek a written answer naming the yacht and your proposed dates. A record that someone else held a place previously does not answer whether the harbour can offer you the same arrangement.
Keep the cost of applying separate from the cost of occupying the berth. Anzio explicitly says its application service is free, but that statement does not cancel the published berthing tariff. If an intermediary asks you for a payment, ask what service the payment covers and who issues the harbour contract. Keep administrative correspondence, the award and the bill together. This approach makes it easier to see whether you have merely requested a berth, secured an allocation or accepted an agreement with an actual charge.
Broker tip: Before accepting a claim that a berth is included in a sale, obtain the harbour operator's written position on your own application, boat dimensions and dates. Keep that confirmation with the purchase papers. See also our guide on what safety equipment a boat must carry in Italy.

Your questions
No: this guide provides a named local tariff, not a national annual price. Camogli's official page states that tariffs vary by vessel type, length and period, while Anzio publishes its own quay schedule. Compare written offers for your actual boat and stay. A price in one harbour does not establish the charge or availability in another. (Comune di Camogli; Comune di Anzio)
The worked annual amount is €6,478.20 for Anzio's published 12.00 m × 3.60 m quay category. That is the €5,310.00 net tariff plus its stated 22% VAT. It covers that tariff and tax calculation only. Separately agreed services and any applicable multihull surcharge are outside this monohull example, and availability still needs confirmation. (Comune di Anzio, 2026 quay tariff)
No: the cited municipal processes allocate berths from applications. Anzio describes rankings, and Palau makes allocation for staying and temporary users subject to availability after other categories. Keep your submission acknowledgement, but obtain the actual award or written berth confirmation before relying on it for a boat purchase or delivery plan. (Comune di Anzio; Comune di Palau)
Anzio asks for the applicant's identity document, subscribed insurance policy and engine booklet. Its application also requires length, beam, draught, requested period and residence status. These are Anzio's published requirements, not a universal checklist for every marina. If ownership is still being transferred, ask the harbour how to complete the application accurately for that transaction. (Comune di Anzio)
No: Palau's published procedure requires the complete application through PEC to the municipal protocol address. The certified email account need not be yours, but requests to other addresses or before the announced opening time are excluded. Check the current application notice and keep the certified transmission record alongside the documents you submitted. (Comune di Palau)
This guide gives one verified named example from Anzio and does not claim a national or regional average. Email us at info@europeanyachtbrokers.com for the latest information on a specific harbour, and ask each harbour office for a written offer using your boat dimensions and dates.
