How to Buy a Boat in Fethiye, Turkey in 2027: Checks and Costs

Plan the local viewing, check the boat's documents and condition, and confirm berth, payment and handover arrangements before buying.

By Peter Mattey · 9 min read · Facts checked 2026-10-03

Buying a boat Fethiye involves both local arrangements and a careful check of the individual vessel. The seller's location helps organise viewings and inspections, but it does not establish the boat's register, condition or tax treatment. This guide uses opened official local information alongside Turkish sale and vessel-transfer provisions. It distinguishes what the sources actually identify from the practical questions a buyer should ask before committing to a particular boat or assuming that a marina place is included.

The guide is for buyers considering a vessel based in Fethiye and sellers preparing its inspection and handover. It covers local facilities or administration, condition, expense allocation and completion. Brokerage recommendations are stated as such. Undated official directories are used to identify facilities, not to promise present berth availability or current capacities. For anything this guide does not cover, email us at info@europeanyachtbrokers.com for the latest information.

Section 1

Separate the boat's base from the maritime office

Our recommendation is to obtain the exact boat location and operator before arranging a Fethiye viewing. The ministry's marina overview identifies both Fethiye and Göcek as established coastal marina areas, and its table supplies named Göcek facility references. Those are useful orientation points, not interchangeable locations or present berth offers. Ask whether the boat will remain at its current place for inspection and whether any movement is planned. Confirm access directly rather than assuming a listing described as being in the wider area is at the town waterfront.

Fethiye Port Authority publishes its contact details for administrative questions. Our recommendation is to provide the actual register information before asking about the sale procedure. The office's contact location and email help a buyer identify the responsible public channel; they do not confirm the seller's signing authority, reserve a marina space or establish the applicability of the binding-register route to every boat nearby. Keep any authority response with the vessel documents and ask the lawyer to identify how it fits the particular ownership-transfer plan.

Our recommendation is to confirm the buyer's intended base separately from the hull purchase. The official directory's Göcek entries are undated and distinguish facility categories; they do not establish that the buyer can retain the seller's place or that an investment-certificate entry proves current operational capacity. Obtain written terms for the actual vessel and dates from the operator. Keep viewing access, survey arrangements and the post-purchase berth identifiable so the sale is not completed on an assumption about a place that has never been offered to the buyer.

Broker tip: Our recommendation is to ask for the vessel's exact base and register details before travel. Use the official port channel for procedure and the actual operator for berth and access terms, keeping their answers separate in the purchase file. Section 2

Prepare the local binding-register sale application

For a boat following the binding-register route, Fethiye publishes illustrated instructions for a sale application through the Umurbey maritime citizen portal. Our recommendation is to confirm that this is the individual boat's route before following the screen sequence. The instructions ask the applicant to check the boat details and select Fethiye as the application port. They demonstrate an administrative file; they are not a substitute for the lawyer's review of title, payment conditions or the separate formalities of a vessel entered in the ship register.

The instructions identify buyer and seller representatives and require the requested document uploads. Our recommendation is to decide who is acting for each party before the file is prepared and confirm the representation evidence with the port. A broker arranging the visit should not be assumed to hold every authority required for the application. The published declaration also refers to originals, so organise those alongside the uploaded copies. Keep names and vessel identifiers consistent across the file instead of leaving the receiving office to resolve an unexplained mismatch at attendance.

Fethiye's procedure includes vessel photographs and serial-number evidence and then an appointment selection process. Our recommendation is to make the identifying photographs readable before submitting the file and bring the requested originals and colour photographs when attending. The illustrated instructions contain historic portal examples and do not promise current appointment availability or a guaranteed processing duration. Confirm the live requirements directly with the office, and keep the inspection and completion schedule conditional on actual accepted arrangements rather than an inferred time shown in a demonstration screenshot.

Broker tip: Our recommendation is to verify the binding-register route with the office before preparing uploads. Check the representatives, serial numbers and original document file, then coordinate the accepted appointment with the lawyer's payment and handover conditions. Section 3

Inspect the condition and agree the expense allocation

Our recommendation is to commission the inspection for the actual boat in Fethiye, with access, testing and any haul-out agreed before suppliers are booked. Ask the seller to support the advertised specification and identify known defects in writing. The Turkish Code of Obligations, Türk Borçlar Kanunu, addresses stated qualities and material, legal or economic defects affecting value or the expected benefit. A location page or marina listing cannot verify the condition of an individual vessel, and this guide does not certify any boat offered for sale.

The buyer's inspection and notification responsibilities deserve a clear communication plan. Our recommendation is to retain the survey findings and seller response, and ask the lawyer to connect them to any contractual inspection condition before the purchase in Fethiye progresses. The code addresses examination in the ordinary course and notification of relevant defects, with separate treatment of later hidden defects. Do not assume that a viewing reveals every issue or that a technical survey result automatically establishes a refund entitlement under every agreement. Use the actual findings and agreed terms.

Before estimating the total purchase outlay, our recommendation is to obtain actual quotations and identify the payer for inspection, transfer assistance and delivery away from Fethiye. The code supplies default expense allocation subject to contrary agreement or custom, but not a local all-in yacht-buying tariff. Keep the seller's price separate from supplier charges and unresolved tax or customs questions. Ask a locally qualified adviser to confirm those transaction-specific treatments rather than importing an unverified percentage from another boat, seller, country or flag arrangement. The marina directory is undated and includes separate certificate categories; no current capacity or availability claim is made. The Fethiye appointment instructions contain historic portal screenshots; current requirements and dates need confirmation. For these, email us at info@europeanyachtbrokers.com for the latest information.

Broker tip: Our recommendation is to set the inspection scope and payer before confirming supplier bookings. Keep the survey report, written disclosures and responses with the lawyer's review of the actual purchase conditions and expense allocation. Section 4

Confirm the price conditions and formal transfer route

Before committing to a boat in Fethiye, our recommendation is to have the locally qualified lawyer identify the law and register relevant to the transaction. The Code of Obligations distinguishes a payment evidencing conclusion of an agreement from separately agreed withdrawal money. Ask the lawyer to state the character of the payment and any survey or document conditions. The sources used here do not establish a local standard deposit percentage, a guaranteed survey rejection period or a fixed appointment turnaround for this particular purchase.

The Commercial Code, Türk Ticaret Kanunu, prescribes particular formalities for a ship-register vessel. It also identifies a different framework for Turkish vessels outside that register. Our recommendation is to compare the actual file with the proposed completion plan before treating a boat located in Fethiye as following a single national procedure. A marina place and a port authority application are different from the title evidence. Confirm who supplies originals, who signs and what possession and payment exchange the lawyer has planned for the relevant route.

Our recommendation is to agree the inventory, delivery place and outstanding work before arranging handover in Fethiye. The Commercial Code addresses seller-owned accessories in a registered-vessel transfer unless the parties agree otherwise. Identify exclusions and third-party equipment explicitly. Keep any berth discussion separate from the hull inventory and ask the operator for written terms before treating a place as secured. The official sources opened do not prove that a seller's berth automatically follows the boat, and no such transfer promise should be inferred from the sale advertisement.

Broker tip: Our recommendation is to obtain the registry and marina answers before the completion date is fixed. Keep the deposit conditions, agreed inventory, original document list and physical handover arrangements together in the transaction file. Your questions

Frequently asked questions

Does Fethiye publish a boat-sale appointment procedure?

Yes. The port publishes illustrated binding-register sale instructions showing the Umurbey application, selection of Fethiye, representative details, document uploads and appointment selection. Our recommendation is to confirm that the boat follows that route and ask for the live requirements before arranging completion. The document includes historic screen examples, so it does not prove current appointment availability or replace the individual title and contract review. (Fethiye Port Authority)

Are Göcek marina entries a berth offer for a Fethiye purchase?

No. The ministry overview identifies the coastal areas and its undated tables identify named Göcek facilities, but those are directory references rather than live berthing offers. Our recommendation is to confirm the actual location with the seller and obtain written terms from the operator for the vessel and dates. Do not treat a Göcek facility entry as an automatic place attached to a boat advertised in the wider Fethiye area. (Ministry of Culture and Tourism)

Does a survey finding automatically let me cancel?

No automatic cancellation or deposit refund rule was verified for every purchase. The Code of Obligations addresses defects and inspection and notification responsibilities, while the actual agreement needs its own inspection conditions. Our recommendation is to preserve the survey findings and seller response and ask the locally qualified lawyer to review the applicable terms. A technical observation and a legal withdrawal entitlement need to be connected through the actual transaction. (Presidency legislation database)

What determines the formal ownership-transfer documents?

The actual register and transaction matter. Article 1001 addresses the agreement, possession and formal requirements for a ship-register vessel, while Article 997 identifies movable-property rules for Turkish vessels outside that register. Our recommendation is to show the actual file to the receiving authority and locally qualified lawyer before fixing completion. The marina location alone does not establish which route applies or whether a downloaded template meets its requirements. (Presidency legislation database)

Who pays inspection and delivery expenses?

The actual agreement and quotations should identify the payer. Article 211 supplies default allocation of transfer expenses and acquisition and onward transport expenses, subject to contrary agreement or custom. It is not an official local survey or shipping price list. Our recommendation is to obtain the actual supplier scope and quotation before bookings and keep unresolved tax and customs treatment for a transaction-specific professional review. (Presidency legislation database)
