THE EYB COUNTRY GUIDES · Croatia
Plan local registry contact, technical records and a sourced Šibenik haul-out example before completing the vessel transfer.

Selling a boat Dalmatia involves a local handover within Croatia's national vessel rules. A seller needs to organise the boat, the inspection arrangements and the original title papers before the buyer arrives. This guide uses Split's published registry contacts and a Šibenik public-port tariff to show practical regional details. It also connects those arrangements with official inspection and ownership-change requirements, so the sale schedule reflects both the boat and its paperwork.
The guide is for sellers and buyers arranging a Dalmatian viewing or completion. Local amounts apply only to the named port-authority services, not every marina in the region. Practical recommendations explain who should confirm availability, inspection duties, document delivery and any destination-register plan before the handover date is fixed. Dalmatia is a sale location rather than a separate national register system. The Ministry identifies Split's harbour master's office at Obala Lazareta 1 and provides a dedicated vessel-registration contact. Our recommendation is to establish which office holds the vessel's record before booking a completion meeting. A boat lying near Split does not establish that every application belongs there. Send the vessel identity and proposed ownership-change route to the responsible registry service and ask where the required originals should be delivered.
Split publishes public counter hours from Monday to Friday, 08:00–13:00. Its vessel-registration service uses upisnik.st@pomorstvo.hr. Our recommendation is to confirm the practical arrangements directly before making travel plans, especially where seller and buyer are visiting for a short handover. Published hours are not a promise that the full sale, signature certification and registry decision can be completed during a single visit. Prepare the contract and document package with the lawyer before using the counter visit to deliver them.
The Split office page also lists branches including Trogir, Hvar, Vis and Komiža, alongside other coastal and island locations. This is useful when the boat lies away from the city, but the competent filing location still needs confirmation for the vessel's record and application. Our recommendation is to ask the actual office whether the branch can receive the papers and which office will process them. Keep that answer with the sale schedule so an island handover does not depend on an unverified document-delivery assumption.
Broker tip: Our recommendation is to confirm the competent registry and original-document delivery location before booking the handover trip. Send the boat identity and proposed route to the registration service, and keep its practical instructions with the completion schedule. A buyer's condition inspection and an official extraordinary inspection are different tasks. The Ministry requires an extraordinary boat inspection after incidents such as grounding, collision, sinking, damage or fire. It also identifies reasonable suspicion of non-compliance as a trigger. Our recommendation is to disclose the incident history and obtain the actual inspection record before agreeing a sea trial from a Dalmatian berth. A private survey report helps the transaction but does not by itself establish that an official inspection obligation has been fulfilled.
Significant repairs and modifications also trigger extraordinary inspection under the Ministry's instructions. Before starting work affecting matters such as structural integrity, stability, navigation characteristics or propulsion, the owner must notify the competent office immediately. Our recommendation is to put repair records and communications with the authority in the sale file. The buyer should be able to distinguish a cosmetic preparation job from a change affecting the vessel's technical position, rather than infer official acceptance from the boat's appearance or an invoice for recent work.
The Ministry also requires valid liability cover for domestic and foreign boats with total propulsion power greater than 15 kW navigating the specified Croatian waters. That requirement matters when a viewing includes a sea trial or the buyer plans a delivery voyage after purchase. Our recommendation is to ask the insurer to confirm the actual cover and responsible operator before sailing. The guide does not assume a seller's policy transfers to the buyer or that a berth-side viewing establishes readiness for navigation.
Broker tip: Our recommendation is to provide incident and modification records before the buyer books a sea trial. Ask the authority about outstanding official inspection duties and the insurer about the actual voyage, operator and change of ownership. See also our guide on boat valuation in Croatia.

Section 3
A seller arranging inspection around Šibenik can use the county port authority's published February tariff amendment as a concrete local reference. It sets €160 per harbour-crane lifting or lowering operation for boats from 10 metres and €105 per underwater-hull washing operation for that group. These are named public-port service entries, not a surveyor's fee or a Dalmatia-wide price range. Our recommendation is to confirm the actual facility, boat dimensions and available lifting capacity before scheduling the buyer's inspection.
The amended Vrnaža dry-berth rule gives up to 10 days' free dry-berth use within the harbour-crane lifting price. After that, it specifies €2 per metre daily for other vessels and €3 per metre daily for sailing boats, with a maximum total dry stay of 90 days. Our recommendation is to have the authority assess the planned storage period in writing. Included time is a contractual service detail, not proof that space is available or that unlimited preparation work can be undertaken ashore.
For a worked example, assume a qualifying boat in the stated length group uses one harbour-crane lift, one lowering operation and one underwater-hull wash under this authority's tariff. The arithmetic subtotal is €425 including VAT: the lifting and lowering entries together contribute €320, with €105 for the wash. This is a local service subtotal, not a complete survey budget. Our recommendation is to state in the sale agreement who pays the inspection-related services and obtain separate quotations for the surveyor and other work. No official Dalmatia-wide boat price range, sale duration, marina occupancy or seasonal paperwork-delay dataset was verified. The Split contacts and Šibenik service tariff do not establish berth vacancies, lifting capacity, surveyor fees or transferable berth rights. For these, email us at info@europeanyachtbrokers.com for the latest information.
Broker tip: Our recommendation is to obtain a booked facility slot and written assessment before promising the buyer a haul-out. Specify the payer and included dry period, with surveyor charges and additional preparation work quoted separately. Readers often go on to our guide on how much yacht broker commission is in Croatia.

The national ownership-document rules still apply to a sale completed at a Dalmatian marina or public harbour. The Ministry states that an ownership-acquisition legal transaction must be written with the certified signature of the person whose right is transferred. Our recommendation is to have the lawyer prepare the transfer document alongside the inventory and physical handover record. An agreed local berth for the meeting does not remove the document requirement or establish that the berth agreement will pass to the buyer.
The Ministry requires originals for documents supporting ownership and encumbrance entries, with other papers permitted as notarised copies. The new owner must request the ownership change within 30 days of acquisition. Our recommendation is to agree who delivers the originals and how the seller receives filing evidence before handing over the final document package. Retain copies for both parties and distinguish contract signing, physical delivery and register processing in the completion record, particularly where the buyer plans to sail away shortly afterwards.
If the buyer intends another flag, deletion and creditor clearance need a separate plan. The yacht instructions require mortgage creditor consent for removal of a mortgaged yacht from the Croatian register. Our recommendation is to have the buyer's destination registrar and the lawyer coordinate the papers before completion. A local sale, an emptied berth and a paid purchase price do not themselves establish that the Croatian register record is closed or that the yacht satisfies another country's documentary requirements.
Broker tip: Our recommendation is to agree the document route and retain filing evidence before either party leaves the region. Coordinate any foreign-register plan and mortgage consent separately, and ask the berth provider about the buyer's own contract. Your questions
No. This guide gives Split's local contact information, while the competent office must be established for the vessel and application. Our recommendation is to identify the registry record and ask the responsible office where the originals should be delivered before booking travel. The listed coastal and island branches help plan that enquiry, but the boat's berth location alone does not establish the filing destination. (Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure — Split office)
No. It is an illustrative subtotal using named services in the Šibenik-Knin County Port Authority's February amendment. It covers the assumed lift, lowering and underwater wash for the specified boat group, with the stated VAT treatment. Our recommendation is to confirm the actual facility and available slot, then obtain separate surveyor and other work quotations instead of treating that subtotal as a complete regional inspection budget. (Šibenik-Knin County Port Authority — February 2026 tariff amendment)
No. The tariff provides the stated possibility of dry-berth use within its harbour-crane lifting arrangement, but it does not confirm an available slot for the particular boat. Our recommendation is to ask the authority to book and assess the planned stay before the buyer arranges inspection travel. Keep the included period, later charges and maximum stay in the written service arrangement. (Šibenik-Knin County Port Authority — February 2026 tariff amendment)
The Ministry separately identifies extraordinary-inspection triggers such as incidents, significant repairs or modifications and reasonable suspicion of non-compliance. A private transaction survey does not itself establish that those official duties have been met. Our recommendation is to provide the incident and repair records and ask the competent office about outstanding requirements before a sea trial or delivery voyage is arranged. (Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure — boat instructions)
The buyer still has the ownership-change filing duty and the Ministry's original-document requirements apply. Our recommendation is to agree the document route and retain filing evidence before departure, while checking insurance and outstanding technical duties for the intended voyage. Where another register is planned, coordinate deletion and any mortgage creditor consent separately rather than assume the local handover resolves every registration step. (Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure — boat instructions)
